Built at the Fairey's Hayes factory in 1923
in the Mediterranean and famously took part in the sinking of the Bismarck whilst operating from HMS Victorious in the Atlantic
The Americans affectionately referred to the Vulcan as the 'Aluminium Cloud' owing to its enormous delta wing profile

It was also a component of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force commanded by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. On June 6th 1944 over 12,000 allied aircraft flew 14,674 sorties.
