I am fairly certain is Navajo based on other examples out there of similarly constructed and painted owls and other animals

All mounted to blue card-- the perfect complement to the orange (with pattern drawn in red and black ink) and white (cotton I believe) of the lace

Infinity Loop: Interlocking Bits Folk Art Whimsy Wreath, 10 Inch diameter joseph albers which would go on topI find this type of whimsy composed of hundreds of individually carved wooden bits, each one sliding through the a slit in the center of next and locking in place quite amazing, and I don't come across them very often, especially one still forming a complete loop like this. (And, well constructed, it seems in no jeopardy of coming apart.) One finds examples fancier than this, with the pieces more ornately carved in a "Crown of Thorns" sort of manner,
