I am not entirely certain as I'm not especially adept at identifying metals but it seems likely to me the body of the piece is bronze and the base and lid brass

but they're really fabulous

Gay at bottom seems all about those tail feathers

made even better by the caption--"Walker: Yes Madam both chairs are comfortable"--which shifts attention toward the two decidedly uncomfortable looking little chairs at her left
