Side Glancing Woman in a Bonnet, 19th C. Sixth Plate Tintype of Folk Art Painting dawan gold on the facing edgeThe latest example in my ongoing quest for photographs of paintings and what a face on this woman, carried forward from folk art painted portrait to tintype, and with the smoky ground, lighter hard left edge, and clipped corners making it feel almost as if she were trapped inside a box forever! I love her side cast gaze, and prominent nose, and pinkened cheeks, but most of all I love the play between the ruffle of her bonnet as it crosses her forehead
