I think what we have here is actually two sets (at least) which were likely combined some time ago—some of them original to this box

but I am pretty certain it is carved of ivory and really a sweet little object

It feels simultaneously very old and quite modern

And brilliantly displayed on what appears to be a stove

I have not being able to figure out who made it, but would guess there were not too many of them made; it feels very small batch to me. In any event, a lovely thing I think, made especially good by the round cutout on each side of the box, though one I have been wary to take all the way
